In short: the fastest option is one item that goes on straight over pajamas: a warm jumpsuit, or a loose hoodie with trousers on an elastic waistband. By the door, shoes without laces; on the hook, a jacket; in the pocket, your phone and a power bank. Prepare everything in the evening so you don't look for socks in the dark at night.
What to prepare in the evening
- Clothes on a chair by the bed, in the order you put them on.
- Shoes without laces by the door: slip-ons, boots with a zipper.
- An emergency bag: copies of documents, water, medicine, a power bank, a torch, a charger.
- A warm item for the shelter. Basements and parking garages are often cold and damp even in autumn.
- The same for children: their clothes in one place, a favourite toy or a blanket.
Why one item is better than a set
In the dark and in a hurry, trousers, a sweater, socks and a jacket take a minute or two. A jumpsuit takes about ten seconds: one zipper, and you are dressed from neck to ankles. Nothing rides up when you sit on a bench or lie on a mat, and your lower back stays covered.
What matters in clothes for a shelter
- Warmth without layers: one warm layer instead of several that slide and twist.
- A covered back and lower back: you often sit on a bench or on the floor.
- Comfort for sitting and lying down: no tight waistband, nothing presses on the stomach.
- Easy washing: the shelter is dusty, and the clothes should wash at 30 °C without fuss.
- Pockets for the phone and keys.
Is a jumpsuit comfortable during an alert?
Yes. A THE ONE jumpsuit goes on over pajamas in 10 seconds. It is made of brushed three-thread jersey (330 gsm, 70% cotton), so it is warm in a cold basement and not hot when you come back home. If you stay in the shelter for a long time, a lower-back zipper (an option) means you don't have to take the jumpsuit off to use the bathroom. Afterwards it washes clean easily.
A jumpsuit is one option, not the only one. The main thing is to have your clothes and shoes ready in the evening. Take care of yourself.
